How to be a successful Student and Manage your time

Own your Education by Megan Stone. I read the whole book for more than two hours. The content of the book is very straight forward and a practical guide to taking ownership of your own education. She explained the characteristics of Student Ownership and commitment, endurance and motivation and it lead to having a successful life. Some of us have learned some of these educational skills and bad habits in the early stages of life that interferes with having a successful education. But it’s not the end, we need to have effective planning and the Education Pyramid to be success. Effective planning shows the specific skills that you need to take ownership of organization, long term thinking and time management. The benefits of effective planning include increased confidence and decreased anxiety, which in turn lead to increased success in academics, career and personal life. How does accountability differ from ownership? Accountability is being reliable and responsible to someone or something and following through with action. Ownership is claiming something as your own or possessing an item or belief. Being a wife, Mom, a fulltime employee and a student, I am able to manage my time to affectively handle my responsibilities. It’s hard but it’s rewarding in the end. While I feel good about the educational goals I have achieved in my life. I’m going to continue and do it all over again.  And not only that, I will share this to my daughter in the future. Education is very important because we own it forever and no one can take it from us. I can see myself going even further in my education desires. Because the skies and beyond, will be the limits to my education.

  1. Hi Jonalyn,

Great post, as Malcom x once said "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare today". Owning our education is something we should be doing regardless of how many other responsibilities we have at hand. As you mentioned time management as well as discipline is very important characteristics to have and motivation is very much necessary but having consistency is key. In studies done it shows that doing a certain way of doing things for more than 66 days for a habit to become something automatic. Kodos to you for owning your education and having similar goals for your daughter as well.
